Conversation Starter of the Week

Mindset 101

Conversation with Yourself

While talking to a woman, who I met at a conference several weeks ago, when she was going through all the conference material on a break she shed some light on mindset. I struck up a conversation with her and she said, "My mind has got to get right to do all this" I quote this because you an I and most likely every woman you know has said this to themselves because if the mind is not right, then forget it. Just put the brakes on whatever it is you are attempting to do and that includes living your One Jazzy Life. Mindset is tough because you have expectations that have not been met even when you have put forth your best effort. You have others who may not be supporting you when you think they should. You have a host of decisions you made, which turned out to be not so good. Who the hell cares!! You did the best you could at the time, NOW is all you can control. Choose to let all of that "sxxt" go and begin being who you want to be every minute, hour and day of your life. Take small steps, you may want to start with something like taking a fifteen minute walk, just for you, to get used to all the good that can come from taking a stand for yourself.

The Jazzy Journey Confidence Transformation System is personalized and I invite you to reply to this email to schedule time a complimentary 30 minute One Jazzy Life Discovery Session to start the process of gaining confidence in your ability to invest your time to reflect your One Jazzy Life Agenda.

Conversation with Mentee

In your mentoring conversations with young ladies, you have probably noticed how closely linked mindset is to how successful these young ladies are in their endeavors. While I am coaching young ladies who participate in the Jazzy Journey Confidence Transformation Program I use the "I am" method of setting mindset. Then we work to build confidence in that particular skill. For example, I was coaching several young ladies who were to speak in front of a group at an awards ceremony. These girls were saying, "I am going to fall down on stage, I am not going to speak clearly, I am going to be too nervous." Do you notice the "I am" pattern? From then on we began the mindset session with "I am....." and the girls put in different things like "speaking confidently", "not going to fall" and not going to mumble. Then we practiced which built courage and confidence. The day of the event went smoothly. They totally rocked it.

As always, share your experience with working on your mindset and how you practiced to build courage and confidence and what the results were, positive or not so positive. Experiences are good to share.

If you have a group of high school or middle school girls that you think could benefit from increasing confidence by learning cutting edge communication strategies to manage perceptions, improve speaking and much more, check out my movement WHY WAIT.  I will be launching an online summer training real soon. The mission is to get young people dreaming, speaking and performing like there is a bright future for them to be a part of.

Talk to me about what you do to work on your game.

Confident Conversations on the inside = One Jazzy Life on the outside

Three Tips to "Work on your Game"

Conversation with Yourself

If you were to talk to  yourself about "working on your game" how would that sound? Would you just leave those thoughts until tomorrow or would you be writing down all of the things you want to do everyday, every week and every hour. There is no right or wrong answer, just notice the choice you are making.

Tip #1
What does the end of your game look like?

For LeBron James the end of the game every year for his professional life is an NBA championship, what will have happened by the end of this year for you to say that this year was successful?

Tip # 2
What do I need to do between now and then to get my desired result.

For example, LeBron James noticed that the other team was only letting him take outside shots, so he got to the arena early and practiced those shots they were giving him, so he was ready. When you look at your life what do you need to practice, learn or implement between now and the end of the year to achieve your desired result.

Tip #3
Step up to the game and play your best!

For LeBron that looked like taking the clutch shots and making those extra passes to his teammates, all to win. You are the only one that can live your life, and there are no do overs. We all wish we could have some moments and decisions we have made back, but reality says that is not possible. If you choose to sit out, you are missing out. Choose to PLAY!

Use these tips to help you talk to yourself about defining the outcome you desire, acquiring the skills and then applying them.

Conversation with Mentee

Young people can relate to the concept of "Work On Your Game". They put on their "game face" all the time for test or interviews, they get it, but what may be harder for them to connect is what to do to actually work on their game. For example, you are talking to your mentee and she is applying for colleges. You may look at some of the scores and grade point averages needed to have a chance to get into those schools, then what. The conversation between the two of you begins on how to match the scores, grade point averages and activities to increase the probability of gaining acceptance to a school of choice. Within this conversation you have already hit on tip one and two. Tip three is building up the evidence in life that shows that when you define the out come, do the work and do your best good things happen. How do you build up this evidence? You build it up with small wins like working on class projects and executing well on exams. The fact is that it feels good to do well and your mentee wants this feeling and by using this conversation you can share with her the tools to get desired results.

As always, share your experience with "working on your game" and  how it made an impact on your life.

Confident Conversations = One Jazzy Life

Conversation Starter of the Week
How to tame your to-do-list.

Conversation with Yourself

The massive to-do-list is more about the stuff that stays on the list rather than the things that always get done like picking up the dry cleaning. This conversation is about all those things that never get off, like cleaning out your closet, having that conversation with your boss about new opportunities, setting up that meeting with a financial planner or signing up for that class you have been putting off. You like all professional women have two to-do- list running at all times. The one on paper, which I would guess is all about the short term but the one in your head is about the medium and long term life you desire. First organize your to-do-list for the week so you time built in for each of these tips this way you will always be moving towards your goals. Then examine your list and decide what you can delegate and do it.

Tip #1
Short term list
What you do will improve your health, further your career, get you more money or add to your happiness?

Tip # 2
Mid-term growth
What is on my list that will prepare me for two to three years down the line?

Tip #3
Longterm goals
Are any of these items on my to-do-list going to be a catalyst for the lifestyle that I want to be living 10 to 15 years down the road.

Conversation with Mentee

This conversation is about planning and organizing to get all of your work done for current and future assignments, it is just that simple. Planning and organizing comes up all the time because the young ladies always say they are cramming for exams, getting homework in late and working on projects at the last minute. Now I know their are people out there who work best like this but there are skills you can reinforce to minimize this stressful experience.Sharing your experience with weekly planning an to-do-list can build the confidence your mentees have in this skill. As with any skill, the more you use it, the more you see how using it makes your life better.

As always, share your experience with learning something new and how it made an impact on your life.
